Journey to the West

After reactivating the dimensional seal in Ashurta's tomb and driving off the Tyrant, the heroes rest and catch their breath for a moment. During this time, Ashurta's ghost appears, thanking them for driving the Far Realm's taint from his resting place. He tells them that a cult in service to the Tyrant is still somewhere in his tomb, but that the tomb's guardians will no longer bother them as they seek out the cult.

The organization known as the Queen’s Wardens started off as a religious organization, back before the Demesne had a name. Back then, the territories now known as the Demesne were colonies of the Ludannese Empire, a vast empire across the sea that the people of the Demesne have long since lost contact with. The Queen’s Wardens were formed by Queen Fariah, one of the Emperor’s many queens, and–more importantly–the one who had been entrusted to oversee the colonization effort.

As the heroes approach the doors to Ashurta's Tomb, they notice markings on the doors. One one side is goblin script along with the iconography of Bane, god of conquest and war. On the other side are markings that Shava recognizes as druidic script, specifically referring to a druidic sect known as the Gatekeepers. The Gatekeepers, Shava tells the others, are an ancient druidic sect--one of the oldest--and are dedicated to stopping incursions from the Far Realm. Often, s…

A few months have passed since the heroes saved Fallcrest from an undead-creating plague that was killing off the population. They have been rewarded for their service, achieving the rank of Journeyman Warden; this means they have been given authority over a group of Novice Wardens. Under their control, the novices managed to raid the lair of a cult of Zehir, kill most of the cultists, and capture the cult leader. Warden Captain Garreth was also promoted, to the rank of Lo…

The medusa, it turns out, does not want to fight. Rather, she parlays with the party, making them an offer.

“We can help each other. I have been bound here in an ill-advised fey bargain by the Prince of Dusk. I have something you want,” she says, nodding at statues of Elder Druid Alrin, Isolde, and two others. “Kill the Prince for me, and I will release them.”

The heroes decide to scout out the Black Goat before entering, suspecting that the patrons will be hostile. They see a collection of rough-looking individuals inside, one of them particularly large. Sredni and Kraygin enter once everyone else has readied themselves in case of attack. Sredni tries to bully the large man into giving up information about Isolde or the Mockers, but the man only laughs and tells the other men to attack. A brief scuffle takes place in the bar, during which …

On their way to see the druidic sect known as the Wardens of the Wood, the heroes are ambushed by a pack of gnolls. Gnolls are fundamentally cowardly creatures, and the pack is soon broken; the only gnoll to not try to run away is the Fang of Yeenoghu, who is quickly cut down. The party finds some treasure, including a curative belt, a magic battle standard, and a skull mask.
